Chief Gary Knott

O Ki Ma Kahn

Message From The Chief Of Wasagamack First Nation

“Being raised by my Grand Parents they gave me the values and the vision which I embraced to become who I am today.

The people of my Nation chose me to lead them into the future. A future that is changing faster than time can handle.

We have a lot of catching up to do, to build our Youth to be strong and powerful, to face this fast changing world and become future leaders of our Nation.

We will bring the future into our present while solidly grounded in our traditional and ancestral culture. Our ancestral culture has kept us alive and strong, to have survived the ravages of residential school experiences and stay free and be free.

"I want to move forward, leave the past behind and put God first"

We value our Elders and their teachings as the foundation of our culture. Our Elders are an integral part of our culture and our Nation.

We welcome you to join us in our effort to make our Nation spiritually, economically and socially strong. We will also, in return,  contribute to your success and live in peace and harmony.

We are a proud Nation with a vision which supersedes all limitations that has been holding us back in the past.

We will make our regrets into our strength and move on to building a prosperous Nation. “

Message From The Director Of Operations of Wasagamack First Nation

“It is my heartfelt joy to be welcomed by you Chief and may the Creator give me strength and the vision to fulfill my mission to take Wasagamack First Nation to the next level.

I have had held various positions prior to this position in Wasagamack from being Chief to Health Director and even crossed the ocean as a representative of Wasagamack in Asia. I have been the founding member of  a vision of Wasagamack Nahkaway Development Corporation which has yet to be congealed for the betterment of a self-sustaining economic development.

"The Youth Is My First Focus and Their Future is the Future of Wasagamack"

In Today’s world, college diplomas get obsolete before they are given. It is my desire to find better ways to make each Youth self-sufficient and strong emotionally and financially to serve the First Nation of Wasagamack. I need all the help that you can give me and I need the criticism to correct my ways, if any thing wrong I do. “

Message From The Assistant Employment and Training Director of Wasagamack First Nation

The Internet and the modern information delivery methods has levelled the playing field of Employment and Enterprise.

The world has changed. Unless we change we sill stay behind and progress will be impossible. We have to make immediate and speedy catching up with the rest of the world.

Effective training inline with today’s business models will be crucial to progress, if not for survival. We have taken steps to accomplish just that.

Our Boreal Home Building Program with the adults and the youth is a preliminary step to building houses but training the young adults with transferable skills while the community will benefit from their training to build houses which are much needed within the Community. We have been granted through the efforts of our youth like Trenton and Roxanne Harper from the Youth Summit 2019 a grant of $550,000 over the first year. This was a major breakthrough for our department.

Entrepreneurial Train The Trainer Program

Six trainers have been trained and have built online internet businesses selling products from overseas globally.

The internet has leveled the playing fields of business and employment. Education has come to a stand still. A diploma may not be worth what is was supposed to be when you entered the course as it is when you end the course.

We have embarked upon not only training in online business but in turn making these trainers into training other members of the community into the online internet marketing business.

This is a breakthrough and this is the self-sustaining program that will develop a culture of entrepreneur ism within the First Nation of Wasagamack while maintaining the sacred traditions of our nation.
